What is Korean Saju?
Saju is a Korean tradition of reading a birth moment through four calendrical pillars. It offers a vocabulary for reflecting on balance, temperament, and recurring patterns.
Four pillars, eight characters
The year, month, day, and hour each contain a Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch. When birth time is known, these eight characters form the chart. If it is unknown, a responsible reading leaves the Hour Pillar open.
The Day Master
The Heavenly Stem of the Day Pillar is the viewpoint from which the rest of the chart is interpreted. It has one of five elements and a Yin or Yang quality, but the whole chart matters more than a single label.
Balance, not a verdict
Saju considers generation, control, season, roots, hidden stems, and relationships among the characters. It is a cultural interpretive practice—not a scientifically validated prediction or an instruction about major life choices.
